The Benefits Of Breathing Training
Breathing training can quickly, safely and naturally alleviate symptoms due to faulty breathing. When you are trained to breathe with the correct rhythm, volume and pattern, you ‘re-condition’ your automatic breathing regulator and breathing may then become quiet and effortless again – awake or asleep. Blood gas balance and oxygenation improve and your body may function correctly again with great benefit for general health.
It’s just common sense...
What do people who Snore, have Sleep Apnoea, Asthma, COPD, Chronic Rhinitis, or Anxiety/Panic Disorder have in common? They have Dysfunctional Breathing.
So You Think You Can Breathe?
Most of us would agree that we know how to breathe. From that very first moment when we enter the world, our amazing little bodies spontaneously inhale and exhale with natural technique and rhythm – it is instinctive, physiological perfection.
Respiratory conditions are the plague of modern day society: asthma, snoring, sleep apnoea, coughing, wheezing and nasal congestion – these are all associated with a faulty breathing pattern.
Australia’s foremost practitioner in breathing retraining, Tess Graham, has joined forces with one of
Canberra’s most talented human development educators, Tracey Anderson Askew, to launch
Canberra’s “Better Breathing Centre” in Kambah. Better Breathing Centre teaches people how to make simple adjustments to their breathing patterns, which can have dramatic results. While breathing is automatic, it can also be consciously varied through practicing breathing at the correct rate, rhythm and volume during the day which resets the “drive to breathe” centre in the brain to deliver quieter, softer more regular breathing at night. Better breathing day and night means fewer respiratory problems.
Over-breathing?
Clinical trials show asthmatics breathe on average 14 litres per minute, which is nearly 3 times the normal amount. Research shows that people who snore and have sleep apnoea have an abnormal breathing pattern during the day as well as the night.

Where do I start to retrain my breathing?
Tracey recommends a breathing consultation, either in the Canberra clinic or via zoom. She will do a comprehensive assessment, which will help you to understand the physiology of breathing, and get you started on making the changes.
Breathing Retraining Audio Program
This is an easy, time-efficient alternative to get yourself back on track. Through the Breathing Retraining Audio Program, you will learn the breathing principles by listening to Tracey guide you through aspects of creating good breathing habits.
There are printable information sheets, an observation checklist to track your progress and audio tracks to guide you through the process.

Tracey Anderson Askew
Director of Better Breathing Centre
Tracey Anderson Askew has a Bachelor of Education and Graduate Diploma of Childbirth Education. She is also a breathing educator and qualified hypnotherapist, and the Director of Better Breathing Centre located in Canberra Australia.
She studied under Tess Graham and continues to use this work preparing women for childbirth, in corporate training, and with health professionals, through supporting people to manage their stress. She primarily works with people who experience anxiety, snoring, sleep apnoea, asthma symptoms or just generally struggle to breathe comfortably. Dentists refer their mouth-breathing children to her in order to change this habit to promote healthy teeth and jaw and mouth development. She loves watching the changes in people when they take control of their health and retrain their bodies to improve the most fundamental ingredient for health and well being - the way we breathe!
